The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has taken a significant step towards boosting agricultural production and food security in Edo State.
The ministry recently empowered 200 poultry farmers with day-old chicks and 500 cassava farmers with cassava cuttings.
Dr. Samuel Owoicho, the Edo Coordinator for the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, highlighted the importance of this initiative during a recent empowerment program in Benin City.
He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to agricultural development and food security, as outlined by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari.

Owoicho explained that the program aims to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills in modern farming practices, improve productivity, increase income, and empower the local economy. By supporting these hardworking farmers, the ministry is investing in the future of Edo State and ensuring the continued growth of its agricultural sector.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Federal Department of Agricultural Extension Services and SANCT International, Nigeria Limited.
It provides farmers with the necessary resources and training to adopt sustainable agricultural practices, strengthen the agricultural value chain, and ensure food security.
Mr. Peter Osagie, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Edo State, expressed his gratitude to the federal government for this empowerment program.
He emphasized that equipping farmers with the necessary tools and knowledge will contribute to the sustainable development of the agricultural sector in Edo State.
As these empowered farmers begin to implement their new skills and utilize the provided resources, they are expected to make a significant impact on agricultural production and food security in Edo State.
