The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has concluded a training program aimed at empowering 70 women in three Northeast Nigerian states with skills in fuel-efficient cooking and nutrition.
Speaking at the end of the three-day workshop in Yola, FAO’s Horticulture and Gardening Expert, Dr. Emon Parmaina, emphasized that the initiative is designed to enhance agro-business while minimizing environmental risks.
“Women often bear the burden of collecting firewood, which poses dangers and contributes to deforestation. This training equips them with safer, energy-saving cooking methods that use less fuel and reduce harmful emissions,” said Dr. Parmaina.

One of the trainees, Mrs. Zainab Hassan, expressed gratitude to FAO for introducing healthier cooking techniques. “I’ve learned how to prepare locally nutritious meals that promote well-being. With these new techniques, we can cook efficiently and live healthier,” she stated.
The initiative underscores FAO’s commitment to promoting agro-business growth and environmental sustainability in vulnerable communities across the Northeast.
