The European Union (EU) and the German Government have officially launched the third phase of the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), aiming to drive investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and rural electrification. With a €17.9 million fund, the programme’s latest phase targets electricity access for 1,500 people, clean cooking gas access for 30,000, and the generation of eight megawatts of electricity.
The NESP, initially launched in 2013 as a technical assistance initiative, is co-funded by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in partnership with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Power.
