The Enugu State Government has launched the construction of 15 rural access roads aimed at improving connectivity to processing and aggregation centers throughout the state.
Announced by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Mr. Patrick Ubru, during the 2024 World Food Day celebration with the Association of Food and Nutrition in Enugu, the initiative seeks to enhance farmers’ access and streamline agricultural supply chains.
Ubru highlighted that the ongoing efforts will also bring in approximately 300 tractors, a move facilitated by Governor Peter Mbah, to significantly increase productivity and efficiency among local farmers.

In alignment with this year’s World Food Day theme, he emphasized the importance of advocating for policies that protect food rights, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and support vulnerable populations.
Additionally, Mbah’s administration has initiated the Livestock Production and Resilience Support (L-PRESS) project, which includes the construction of a regional veterinary hospital and modern abattoirs, essential for ensuring the health of livestock and quality meat supply.
Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, praised Ubru’s contributions and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to building a robust agricultural sector that meets local demands and sets a benchmark for food security.
