The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project in Ekiti State has rolled out a transformative cluster formation exercise across the state’s 16 local government areas. This initiative aims to enhance agro-business farmers’ productivity, resilience, and profitability.
At the launch event in Ikere Ekiti, Mrs. Adenike Omoleye, the project’s Value Chain Officer, underscored the significance of farmers operating in clusters.

According to her, clusters encourage collaboration, resource-sharing, and knowledge exchange, empowering farmers to achieve higher yields and profits.
Omoleye further revealed plans to bridge gaps in the livestock value chain by analyzing market trends and connecting farmers with markets, processors, and key stakeholders.

She stressed the importance of profiling farms to ensure targeted support and highlighted that only groups—such as cooperatives and existing associations—would be integrated into clusters across poultry, sheep/goat, pig, and beef value chains.
Mrs. Olubunmi Ajayi, L-PRES Extension Officer, emphasized the project’s commitment to providing technical assistance and promoting sustainable farming practices.

“Enhancing productivity must go hand-in-hand with protecting the environment to secure the future of livestock farming,” she noted.
The South Central District is the first to benefit from the cluster program, which forms part of the six-year L-PRES initiative focused on modernizing livestock farming and unlocking its commercial potential statewide.
