At the recent Biashara Afrika conference in Kigali, ECOWAS and AeTrade Group forged a pivotal partnership to enhance market access for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly those led by women and youth in Africa.
The agreement was signed by Professor Fatou Sow Sarr, ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs, and Mr. Mulualem Syoum, CEO of AeTrade Group, focusing on utilizing the group’s digital platforms, including Sokokuu.Africa and the 50 Million African Women Speak Platform (50MAWSP).

This collaboration is set to accelerate digital financial inclusion, create job opportunities, and foster intra-African trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), directly benefiting SMEs. Professor Sarr highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the ECOWAS Gender Development Centre to support women and youth entrepreneurs.
With AeTrade Group’s commitment to building a robust digital trade infrastructure, over 330 partners have already joined the ecosystem, helping to enhance the visibility and export readiness of SMEs. This partnership will also emphasize job creation and youth entrepreneurship in agricultural value chains, empowering SMEs to thrive and compete effectively in local and global markets. Together, ECOWAS and AeTrade Group aim to strengthen the operational framework to drive impactful results for marginalized groups across the ECOWAS region.
