Africa’s richest man and President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has been crowned the 2024 African Business Icon of the Year by Champion Newspapers.
The award was received on his behalf by Tunde Oladipo, Group Branding Lead of Dangote Industries, at the Champion Newspapers Annual Awards held in Lagos.
Dangote, whose conglomerate is the largest in West Africa, was honoured for his legacy of industrial leadership, philanthropy, and commitment to Africa’s economic growth. His foundation, endowed with $1.25 billion in 2014, continues to impact health, education, and empowerment across the continent.

He was also named “Man of the Year” and “Global Business Icon” at the event, which celebrated 41 awardees for their contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic and technological advancement.
Other honourees included Zenith Bank (Bank of the Year), UBA’s Oliver Alawuba (Banker of the Year), and NNPC’s Olufemi Soneye (Media Manager of the Year).
Champion Newspapers lauded all awardees for their integrity, excellence, and national impact.
