The Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has refuted allegations that the agency imposes export duties in dollars, clarifying that such actions are not within their mandate.
Speaking at the National MSME Conference held from October 3rd to 5th, 2024, CG Adeniyi explained that while certain export valuations may be calculated using dollar equivalents, payments are strictly accepted in the local currency.
He emphasized that any demand for dollar payments is against the agency’s policy and urged anyone who encounters such practices to report them immediately.

CG Adeniyi further highlighted the recent strides made by the Nigeria Customs Service in improving trade facilitation. The agency was recently recognized as the Most Improved Federal Government Agency for 2024, reflecting its commitment to addressing stakeholders’ concerns and streamlining export processes.
The three-day conference provided a vital platform for stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing Nigeria’s export sector and supporting small-scale enterprises, with experts and industry leaders sharing valuable insights.
