Creative industry can deliver 2.7m jobs by 2025 – speaker Abbas

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, says Nigeria’s creative industry holds the potential to create 2.7 million new jobs by the end of 2025.

Speaking at a public hearing on a bill to establish the National Institute for Film and Media Technology, he highlighted the sector’s growing global impact, noting that many Nigerian content creators now earn over $1 million annually.

He cited projections that the entertainment industry could generate $14.82 billion in revenue by 2025, up from $4 billion in 2013 stressing the need to equip youths with skills in film, media, and artificial intelligence.

“Nollywood contributes 2.3% to Nigeria’s GDP and employs over 1 million people,” he said, calling for strategic investment in technical education and digital innovation.

The proposed institute, he added, would be the first to integrate media technology and AI training in Nigeria, creating more opportunities for young talents to thrive and contribute to national development.
