The Imo State High Court in Owerri has issued an interim injunction halting the demolition of structures at the Central Market Layout in Owerri. Judge I.C. Ibeawuchi’s ruling on Thursday prohibits Governor Hope Uzodimma and five other defendants from further demolishing or evicting occupants from the site.
The court order, which applies to the Governor and his agents, restricts any further demolition activities or construction of perimeter fencing around the disputed land until a full hearing on the plaintiffs’ motion for an interlocutory injunction is conducted.
The plaintiffs, represented by lawyer Christian Nwadigo, include the Incorporated Board of Trustees of Rhema Life Ministry International, Sunway Global Properties Limited, Zero-one Global Properties Limited, and individuals Ekpereamaka Nwankwo and Nwankwo Emmanuel. They seek to restore their property rights and claim compensation for damages caused by previous demolitions.
