China has pledged to replicate its agro-industrial transformation model in Nigeria within five years, starting with a smart farming hub in Iragbiji, Osun State.
This commitment was made by the China International Business and Development Corporation (CIBDC) during a recent business visit to the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi. CIBDC Chairman, Mr. Chang Daniel, said the project aims to harness technology and mechanized farming to create jobs and boost food production.
The initiative, developed in partnership with the Nigerian government, will establish a Smart Farming Industrial Estate in Iragbiji, targeting youth engagement in agro-production, processing, packaging, and export.
“With digital tools and mechanization, we’re confident we can help transform Nigeria’s agricultural landscape—just as China did four decades ago,” Daniel said, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future as a global agro-economic force.

The President of the Nigeria-China Investment Club, Dr. Chidi Ulelu, revealed that the project would include full electricity supply for the host community, enabling around-the-clock agro-business operations.
Princess Afoma Adigwe, Executive Director of Uplifting Youth Through Agriculture, added that the project will serve as a training and empowerment center for young Nigerians, equipping them with practical agribusiness skills and job opportunities.
The traditional ruler of Iragbiji expressed gratitude, noting that the project aligns with the development goals of the newly established Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in the area.
The Iragbiji initiative is expected to serve as a model for similar agro-industrial projects across Nigeria, with a focus on MSME development, youth employment, and export-led agricultural growth.
