During a recent two-day visit to Akure, Ondo State, the Bulgarian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Yanko Yordanov, praised HEART for Widows International for its remarkable efforts in supporting widows across Nigeria. The Ambassador recognized the NGO’s initiatives, particularly its self-empowerment programs that create job opportunities, including the establishment of the Akure Airport Hotel, where many widows are employed.
In a meeting with local widows at the palace of the Akapinsa of Ipinsa, Oba Omoniyi Olufunmilayo, Ambassador Yordanov expressed gratitude to the traditional ruler for hosting the organization. He also commended the founders, Mrs. Britt Schulze-Adesida and Prince Adetayo Adesida, for their dedication to uplifting widows’ lives.

The Ambassador’s visit included a tour of the widows’ training center and farm, where beneficiaries engage in craft production and cocoa farming. Yordanov encouraged further support for such initiatives, noting Nigeria’s fertile soil and the resilience of the women.
In a dinner hosted by HEART for Widows, attended by female monarchs, the founders called for more support from local leaders, urging them to provide farmlands and shops to assist vulnerable widows. Yordanov also emphasized the strong ties between Nigeria and Bulgaria, highlighting potential for deeper cultural and economic collaboration.
