Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, is positioning the state as a future agro-business powerhouse with a bold target of N2.3 trillion in annual agricultural revenue.
Speaking at the 12th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Kano, Bago said his administration is shifting from subsistence farming to a full-scale agribusiness model that drives economic growth.
“This is not just farming for survival—it’s an economic reform strategy. We’re building an agricultural economy that earns,” he stated.
As part of this transformation, Bago announced a pioneering initiative to engage pensioners in mechanized farming, unveiling plans to establish a dedicated pensioners’ farm. He also donated N100 million to support retirees and boost their participation in the sector.
