Researchers and entrepreneurs working in AI are invited to submit applications for up to a N5 million award, according to the Federal Ministry of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy.
The Nigeria Artificial Intelligence Research Scheme was established by the ministry to provide funding to 45 startup and research consortiums so they can explore new avenues for expanding their research and creating a viable AI ecosystem in Nigeria.
By promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration between individuals and organizations in the AI field, the initiative aims to establish a thriving and sustainable AI ecosystem in Nigeria.

Application
The application period is from October 13 through November 15, 2023.
Applications must be submitted electronically using the designated channel listed below.
The suggestions will be assessed by a group of AI specialists
Shortlisted candidates will receive email notification and an invitation for an interview
Successful candidates will receive email notification
Eligibility
Group that consists of a technology start-up, a Nigerian professor, or a foreign researcher
must have a research plan that is compatible with the AI priority areas set forth by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy
The applicant must be able to publish at least one peer-reviewed publication within one year of obtaining the award
The applicant must have a comprehensive proposal explaining the project and its potential impact on the Nigerian economy
The applicant must have a track record of excellence in research or entrepreneurship
Selection Criteria
Grant applications will be reviewed by a panel of AI experts.
The selection criteria will include:
Novelty and originality of the research proposal
Applicant’s track record of excellence in research or entrepreneurship
Alignment of the research with the Ministry’s AI priority areas
Feasibility of the project
