Beyond the financial incentives, participants stand to gain access to a myriad of benefits, including a one-week pre-incubation boot camp in Lagos, prospects for equity funding, a demo day to showcase innovations to investors, as well as scholarships for LinkedIn and Azure platforms, along with internet routers equipped with 500GB data.

For those interested in participating, 3MTT has outlined a set of steps to follow. This includes researching current social issues in Nigeria, engaging with local communities to understand their challenges, selecting issues aligned with their technical skills and potential impact, clearly defining the problem and its significance, and submitting a 3–5 minute pitch video as part of the application process. Applicants have the option to apply individually or as a team of up to five members. The deadline for idea submissions is set for Monday, March 25, 2024.

The Innovation Challenge is just one of the initiatives under the 3MTT program, which aims to empower participants as part of the government’s broader objective to train 3 million Nigerians. Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, highlighted the program’s success during the launch of its second cohort. He revealed that many fellows from the initial cohort had secured internships nationwide and were gearing up for hackathons to apply their skills and develop innovative solutions. Additionally, efforts are underway to explore unemployment benefits for program participants.

The recently launched second phase of the program accommodates 270,000 individuals, marking a significant step towards achieving the overarching goal of training 3 million Nigerians.
