The 2023 Virtual Internship Program of the African Development Bank (AfDB)

The leading pan-African development organization, the African Development Bank (AfDB), was founded in 1964 and works to advance social progress and economic growth throughout the continent. Of the 81 member states, 54 are regional member countries in Africa.

Through inclusive and sustainable economic growth, the Bank’s development program aims to considerably reduce poverty by providing the financial and technical assistance for innovative projects.

Five major areas (High 5s) have been identified for scaling up, all of which will accelerate our delivery for Africa and help to sharply focus the Ten-Year Strategy’s (2013–2022) objectives while also ensuring greater developmental impact. These areas are energy, agro-business, industrialization, integration, and improving the quality of life for Africans.

The Program’s participants are chosen through a competitive process that takes into account the Bank’s business requirements.

Goals:

The program’s overarching goals are to:

Give students a chance to work at the African Development Bank and gain professional and hands-on experience.
Give the Bank a pool of prospective applicants for use in upcoming hiring.
Nevertheless, candidates shouldn’t anticipate that their internship would result in a job offer from the Bank right away.

The Subject Areas Needed for the:

Economics, Agriculture, Private Sector Development, Human Capital Development (Education and Health), Environment, Finance, Infrastructure Development, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Communications, Law, Internal Audit, Budget, Governance, or any other field of study that the Bank may deem relevant to its operations are the fields of study from which interns are selected.

Students who are working on projects that directly impact the Bank’s purpose will receive special consideration.

Schedule for the First Session of the Program in 2023:

Each candidate will be awarded an internship for a minimum of three (3) months and a maximum of six (6) months. Each candidate is only permitted to complete the internship once.

In order to enable seamless and continuous remote working, interns are therefore expected to have access to a personal computer, a dependable internet connection, and a comfortable living space.
