In a bid to tackle increased criminal activities and illegal trade, the Federal Capital Territory Administration is set to clear the Apo Dutse scrap market, known as Pantaker, of squatters and traders.

The Joint Task Force, led by Coordinator Mukhtar Galadima, has issued a one-week ultimatum for squatters to vacate, warning of impending demolition by bulldozers.

Galadima emphasized that the area, previously demolished by past administrations, is designated for residential purposes. Despite efforts to sensitize squatters, the team is determined to clear the space for lawful owners to develop their plots.

Secretary Dr. Peter Olumuji highlighted the link between the illegal settlement and criminal attacks on neighboring estates, underscoring the necessity of clearing the area to curb crime rates.

After allowing time for the squatters to relocate, the task force plans to return to enforce the eviction once the ultimatum expires, aiming to reclaim the area for its intended purpose and reduce criminal activities in the district.
