The federal capital territory minister, Nyesom Wike, has assured Apo automobile mechanics and dealers of improved conditions as the government begins plans to relocate them to a permanent site in Wassa District.

Wike gave the assurance in Abuja while inaugurating a committee to facilitate the long-delayed relocation process. The minister said the move, which had been promised by several past administrations since 2011, is now being actively pursued by the current government under President Bola Tinubu.

He disclosed that a joint site visit with representatives of the traders will hold on June 27 to inspect the new Wassa location and determine the infrastructure needs that must be met before the relocation.

“This is not just another promise,” Wike said. “We are taking concrete steps to ensure the necessary infrastructure is in place so these businesses can operate efficiently in their new site.”

The committee includes officials from the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Development Control, Urban and Regional Planning, Land, Survey, and Resettlement departments.

Wike urged the traders to remain united and avoid internal conflicts, stressing that collaboration would help speed up the process. He also emphasized the government’s responsibility to support citizens and enable small businesses to thrive.

The planned relocation is expected to ease congestion in the Apo area while providing the traders with better facilities to run their businesses.
