In a bid to enhance food production and tackle unemployment, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has urged the youth of the state to view agriculture as a viable and profitable career.

This call to action was made during an interactive session with members of the All Sunshine Youth Agricultural Employment Association at the Governor’s office in Akure on Wednesday.

The governor, represented by Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, praised the youth for forming the association and committing to agricultural enterprise. Adelami emphasized that agriculture should be perceived not just as a means of sustenance but as a sustainable business opportunity.

He assured the youth that they would benefit from ongoing and upcoming government programs designed to support agricultural ventures.

“The initiative of coming together to pursue agriculture as a business is commendable. Our administration has already made significant strides in this area, and we are eager to continue rolling out programs that will further support your efforts,” Adelami remarked.

He highlighted that the government’s goal is to inspire and motivate young people to engage seriously in agriculture and make a successful career out of it.

John Paul Akinduro, spokesperson for the Deputy Governor, echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of re-orienting the youth towards agriculture.

He also noted that the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Olayato Aribo, had earlier expressed gratitude for the government’s responsive measures towards supporting local farmers and encouraged youths to leverage government programs.

During the session, Permanent Secretary Foluke Daramola from the Ministry of Agriculture urged the participants to remain dedicated to their agribusiness ventures. She revealed that the state is currently gathering data on farmers to ensure effective planning and programming.
