Senator Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, has praised Origin Tech Group’s collaboration with the federal government on the ‘Greener Hope Agricultural Productivity Programme.’ This initiative, endorsed by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), aims to enhance Nigeria’s food security through large-scale agricultural mechanisation.
During a live broadcast on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Kyari lauded the programme’s goal of establishing an integrated food security system. This system, covering 150,000 hectares nationwide, will include food production, logistics, and market hubs. The initiative promises to provide essential irrigation and mechanisation equipment, with farm sizes ranging from 2,000 to 25,000 hectares per cluster. It is expected to create 1.5 million jobs and reduce food prices by 25%, akin to a Marshall Plan for agriculture.
Starting with the 2024 dry season, the programme aims to achieve its objectives within three years and has a decade-long funding timeline. It focuses on crops requiring immediate attention. Earlier, President Bola Tinubu highlighted this project as central to his administration’s food security and local industry protection efforts during his visit to Minna, Niger State.
