AGRA claims to have engaged 967,000 farmers as part of its attempts to increase food production in Nigeria.

Dr. Kehinde Makinde, Country Director of AGRA, made the claim during an inspection visit to NAERLS/AGRA demonstration farms and the commissioning of a Screen house in Likoro village, Kudan local government area, Kaduna State.

Farmers in Kaduna and Niger states, he claims, were instructed and assisted in new farming techniques.

“We show them how to improve their skills in maize, rice, soy beans, cowpeas, vegetables, and other crops in response to changing trends in our environment.”

He stated that the AGRA train will soon travel to Nasarawa, Gombe, and Oyo states to give farmers similar technical skills and support.

“Our primary concern is food production,” he added. Farmers must be informed about new farming methods that are in line with global trends as the climate changes.

“This is what we’ve been doing since we arrived in Nigeria to begin operations in 2017.” We were in Niger State at first, then in Kaduna. And since our arrival, we have employed around 967,000 farmers. We are currently attempting to relocate to Nasarawa, Gombe, and Oyo states.

The country director also stated that the farmers he met on the field during his tour of the locations impressed him with their excitement and commitment.

He also praised the state administration for its commitment and for creating an enabling climate, urging them not to back down from future engagements.
