The African Development Bank Group has granted Burkina Faso a $39.2 million loan to fund the Multisectoral Project to Support Skills Development for Resilience. This initiative aims to enhance skill development and resilience, particularly among women and young people, in a country grappling with ongoing socioeconomic challenges.
The project, supported by $13.2 million from the African Development Fund and $26 million from the Transition Support Facility, is set to create 20,000 jobs and impact 175,000 lives. It addresses the urgent need for alternatives to violence and radicalization by offering vocational training and entrepreneurial support.
Key components include training for 61,830 individuals affected by the security crisis, support for 800 youth entrepreneurs, and capacity building for 35 vocational centers. The initiative will also fund 1,200 youth-led and 2,000 women-led enterprises, and establish 1,000 poultry and small ruminant farms. It includes education on human rights, peacebuilding, and climate-resilient technologies.
