Abia State has taken a major step toward modernising agriculture with the launch of the Abia Agricultural Database System (ADDS), a digital platform designed to drive productivity, transparency and food security.
Speaking at the Agriculture Technology and Innovation Summit in Umuahia, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Cliff Agbaeze, described the initiative as a turning point where the state has chosen “data over guesswork, innovation over stagnation, and transformation over tradition.”
He said ADDS will ensure decisions are guided by accurate, real-time data, enabling fair input distribution, effective planning and improved farm practices. According to him, over 184 wards have been covered, with tens of thousands of farmers documented, capturing their needs, challenges and aspirations.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, described ADDS as a game changer that will address long-standing challenges caused by unreliable and outdated agricultural data.
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, academia and research institutions also commended the initiative, describing it as a strong foundation for food security and agricultural transformation in Abia State.
