In a move to promote public health and environmental sustainability, the Abia State Government is set to convert cow dung from the Lokpanta Regional Cattle Market into biogas for roasting cow legs, heads, and hides.

The Deputy General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Mr. Peter Ekekwe, disclosed this during an inspection of the market in Umunneochi LGA. He said consultations with environmental experts are in advanced stages and the project could kick off within a month.

Ekekwe expressed concern over the harmful use of tires to roast meat, describing it as hazardous to health and the environment. He stressed the need for a cleaner, safer alternative.

The biogas initiative aims to transform the massive organic waste generated at the market into clean energy, aligning with global sustainability goals and improving sanitary conditions in the busy cattle hub.
